Key Words and Phrases

Advocate: A person who pleads another’s cause, a person who speaks or writes in support of something.

Assertive Community Treatment: An intensive community based service team comprised of various professionals including a CPS.

Best practices: A designation given to services that prove to be effectives and worthy of replication.

Bureau of Accreditation, Licensure, and Certification BALC: The part of the state that provides unbiased oversight of Medicaid reimbursable services to ensure appropriate services are being delivered.

Collateral: A person with a relationship to a member and who is important in the treatment or recovery goals of the member who is a resource to assist the member in meeting treatment or recovery goals.

Consumer: The term used to reference persons who have or do receive mental health services. Previous terms used included: patient or client; also used when referring to people involved in addictive disease and developmental disability services.

Department of Human Services: The section of Illinois state government that is responsible for all state delivered programs that are service related, i.e.: Division of Mental health, Developmental Disabilities.

Disclose: To reveal or make known; as in, I choose to disclose my mental illness or you must have a release of information to disclose any information about our members.

Division of Mental Health, Development Disabilities: the section of DHS that is responsible for policy, planning and contraction of all public services throughout the state.

Drop-In Center: A level of service that focuses on social skills development and support, in a less structured manner.

DSM-IV: The Diagnostic and Statiscal Manual of Mental Disorders, 4^{th Edition (1994) or DSM-IV-TR (2000)}

Evidenced-based Practices: A way of statistically proving the effectiveness of services.

GAF: The Global Assessment of Functioning Scale contained in the DSM-IV

IAPSRS: International Association of Psychiatric Rehabilitation Services.

Initiative: The action of taking the first step or move; responsibility for beginning or originating.

Medicaid Rehab Option (MRO): A Medicaid reimbursement program, which certain services can be billed and reimbursed that support recovery.

Psychosocial Rehabilitation: A model of program that operates form guidelines established by IAPSRS; Psychiatric rehabilitation.

Q.A. Quality Assurance: An internal review of clinical documentation to ensure proper documentation procedures are being followed.

Recovery: 1. A gaining of something lost. 2. A value that reinforces mental illness is a temporary condition.

Recovery Model: model based on the belief that people can and do recover from mental illness, important belief that influences the Rehab Option.

Self directed Recovery: Belief that consumers are the leader of their treatment an recovery.

Stabilization: To make firm, to keep from fluctuating; as in symptom stabilization.

Symptom: Any condition accompanying or resulting from an illness or disease ands serving as an aid in diagnosis.

Treatment Planning: A strategic course of action that directs appropriate services and ensures recovery.

Treatment Team: The composition of people who facilitate recovery; the consumer, doctor Case manager and / others who are specified in the Treatment plan.

Utilization Review UR: A process to ensure a consumer is served appropriately.

Wrap –around: as in continuum of services, services that take into account the physical mental, spiritual, and environmental needs of a consumer.
